Italian firm secures $619 million contract for gas project in Iraq’s West Qurna-2 Field

Iraq awards Sicim SPA a $619 million contract to build gas facilities in West Qurna-2 to reduce gas flaring.

 

 

In a significant move to enhance its energy infrastructure, Iraq has awarded a $619 million contract to Sicim SPA, an Italian engineering and construction company. Announced on Tuesday by the Iraqi cabinet, the deal focuses on the development of critical gas facilities within the southern West Qurna-2 oilfield

Under the 33-month agreement, Sicim SPA is tasked with the rehabilitation of an existing gas processing plant and the construction of additional gas infrastructure. This initiative is part of Iraq’s broader strategy to upgrade its gas processing capabilities. The West Qurna-2 field, which is operated by the Russian energy giant Lukoil, will see substantial infrastructure improvements aimed at boosting its processing capacity.
